Every Street Is a Little Different

Where an outdoor unit can go, how far pipes have to travel and whether the council needs to be involved all depend on the house and the street. In Clifton and Kingsdown, protected frontages and listed buildings push us to the rear. On Totterdown’s slopes, tiny yards and steep steps shape the plan. In Henleaze and Westbury-on-Trym, there is usually room at the side of the house. In city-centre flats, it’s the building’s managing agent we need on board.

We cover the districts below and plenty in between. If you can’t see yours, add the postcode to the form and we’ll confirm.

Clifton, Hotwells & the West

Georgian terraces, Regency villas and tall converted houses — many listed or in conservation areas, so we favour rear and lightwell positions for outdoor units.

North Bristol

Victorian and Edwardian terraces giving way to interwar semis and post-war estates, with plenty of homes where air-to-air suits the living room and bedrooms.

Local Considerations

Conservation areas and listed buildings

Large parts of central and west Bristol are protected. External units on street-facing walls often need permission there, and listed buildings need listed building consent. We check before we quote.

Parking and access

Residents’ parking zones, narrow lanes and steep streets are normal in Bristol. We arrange access and any permits in advance so the day runs smoothly.

Shared buildings

Converted houses and modern blocks need the freeholder’s or management company’s agreement. We provide the details they usually ask for.

Homes off the gas grid

Some properties on the rural fringe use oil or LPG. Until March 2027 these can qualify for a £9,000 air-to-water grant — see the grant page.
